Slovenia to Italy to Austria to Germany – Day 12 – #15daysthrougheurope
So Day 12 was… a lot of driving. But the mom and I both enjoy that part of travel, so no complaints here. We even added some driving in to see a few more sights from the road. We were in four different countries and enjoyed every second of it. A lot of people hate the actual “traveling” part of travel. Be it by air or road, this part seems to bore people. We love it almost as much as our destination. There is so much to see, and by road tripping, you can take it ALL in!
Starting out in Slovenia, we woke up to a cool morning and clear skies. We packed up our stuff and loaded the car to set out – on the road again. Or first stop was Lago del Predil, a small lake in the Italian Alps. Driving into Italy was not exactly what we expected. We drove through very small towns and people were nowhere to be seen. There was almost a sadness to it.
We arrived at the lake and could see only 2 other people who looked to be camping on the adjacent shore. We watched in awe as they washed their hair and face in the lake water as we pulled our coats around us tighter to stay warm. It wasn’t all out cold, but there was a crispness in the air. We sat and had a funny breakfast of leftovers from our dinner the night before. Not your typical breakfast, but yummy, satisfying and all important budget friendly. After that, we wandered around the lake taking in the magical views of the tropical looking water and a snow capped mountain background.
From here we spent some more time in the car and traveled back into Slovenia and then back up into Austria and then into Berchtesgaden where we decided to drive through the mountains and then wander around the Lake Konigssee town. Had we had more time we probably would have taken the boat out to the island.
We walked through the shops and had ice cream cones before finishing up the last two hours on the road and ending up back at home!
