My Pledge to Belize by the children in Santa Elena.

Listening to the children say their pledge was a really special treat.  It gives an amazing insight into the hopes and dreams of the country and the hopeful direction of their education system.  While I don’t think any child is more or less deserving of books, its an amazing feeling leaving a book in the hands of a child that has big dreams for their future and the future of their community.   Often times when we leave the books behind you wonder how they will be used and how the library will end up. We have actually been fortunate, and all of the libraries we have been able to revisit are thriving and being used well.  But in Belize after listening to the children recite their pledge to their country I realized just how much of a difference a few hundred books could really make.  Literacy is truly the foundation of a successful education.  By making sure they now have books available to them we have done what we can to try and help give them a jump start in their education.

Belize has a rich history and has overcome so much.  It is inspiring to see and hear the goals of the country.
